The Aggregate Shipbuilding Output in China Amounted to 45.34 Million Deadweight Tons

In 2013, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China (from a total of 80 shipbuilding enterprises) amounted to 45.34 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 24.7 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on January 23.

In the year in question, China's new ship orders amounted to 69.84 million dwt, up 242 percent year on year. As of the end of December, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 131 million dwt, up 22.5 percent year on year.

In 2013, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 35.73 million dwt, down 27.9 percent year on year and accounting for 78.8 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China. Meanwhile, China's new ship export orders amounted to 64.74 million dwt, up 333 percent year on year and constituting 92.7 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of December, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 115.41 million dwt, up 30.5 percent year on year and constituting 88.1 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
