Bioplastics manufacturer Cereplast has secured patent protection for high heat resistant polymer compositions having polylactic acid (PLA), from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The patent 8,222,320 issued by USPTO expands the company's growing intellectual property portfolio and protects the composition formulation invented by the company.
Cereplast's PLA compositions, which can be industrially compostable, can retain their structural properties at temperatures greater than 165°F.
Cereplast chairman and CEO Frederic Scheer commenting on the patent said: "This new patent strengthens the Company's leadership position in the bioplastics industry by protecting our intellectual property, and is in line with our long-term growth strategy as we continue to create grades of bioplastic resin that meet the demands of the marketplace."
