The Ex-Factory Price of LED Light Bulbs Has Been Falling to US$1/W

The ex-factory price of LED light bulbs has been falling to US$1/W, according to Jason Wu, chairman of Taiwan-based high-power LED packaging firm Edison Opto. A continuous fall in LED light bulb costs has been stimulating demand. The price of Everlight's 8W LED light bulb has fallen to NT$299/unit (US$10.13/unit). The market predicts by the end of 2012, the price of LED light bulbs will reach around US$10-12/unit. However, this goal is likely to be reached soon as demand for LED lighting increases significantly due to Taiwan's electricity price hikes. Distribution channels in Taiwan plan to cooperate with Everlight to promote the 8W LED light bulb at the price of NT$299/unit. Tsann Kuen , a retail chain in Taiwan, plans to lower the price of its own-brand 7.5W LED light bulbs to NT$249/unit. The price of 5W LED light bulbs will also decrease to NT$199. The increasing demand for LED lighting is likely to benefit upstream LED firms such as Unity Opto, Formosa Epitaxy, and Epistar. The market predicts LED lighting penetration rate is likely to reach 10% in 2012. Source: DIGITIMES
