Automation consultancy GB Innomech has developed a new high speed automated product packaging system for global automotive supplier.
The high speed customized packaging system will be used by SG Technologies to more than double the production capacity for one of its highest volume products.
The new system has been designed to automate a labor-intensive and repetitive product packaging process for a series of components used within automotive fuel injectors, Innomech said.
In addition to helping in increasing production throughput for product line by 150%, the new system provides SG Technologies with improved manufacturing process efficiency and a reduction in work in progress.
SG Technologies commercial director Stuart Hutcheon said: "Innomech has developed the ideal system to automate a potentially rate-limiting product packaging process and to provide us with increased flexibility and capacity to meet fastgrowing and changing customer demands.
"The system also removes any risk of potential damage to products through manual handling which is critical in our drive towards zero defect manufacturing and even greater process efficiencies."
Additionally, the system can handle two distinct product families, each containing multiple variants while eliminating manual adjustment.
SG Technologies initially selected Innomech to undertake in-depth feasibility study and to recommend the most cost-effective way of automating the company's existing manual packaging process.
Innomech developed the new system over 10-month period from initial concepts through to system build, test and installation into the customer's existing production line.
