Three Intertextile Is Used by "Concurso Moda Inclusiva" Finalists

The finalists of the competition “Concurso Moda Inclusiva” (integrated fashion competition) are designing with VICUNHA fabrics. Accessibility, utilitarianism and social awareness were the goals of the fashion designer for their collection.

The looks of the fashion students and designer were presented during a fashion show on the 19th November 2013 in the Museu Brasileiro de Escultura (MuBE) in São Paulo. The compe-tition is an initiative of the estate secretariat for the rights of disabled persons in São Paulo and is supported by VICUNHA Têxtil, that are delivering Denim and Serge fabric for the pro-duction of the pieces. The competition wants to motivate upcoming designer to rethink the world of fashion and take diversity more into consideration.

“We want to produce practical and sustainable clothing for disabled persons that are also attractive for everyone. This is the meaning of integrative”, explains Patrícia Galves (24), one of the finalists. For her designs she used the premium fabric Missy Black that is especially dark coloured and with elasticity, perfect for shapes like skinnies and jeggings. She also worked with the serge fabric Pandora with a leopard print.

For Silvana Hetzl (26), one of the finalists, it is important that fashion can adapt to different conditions and help minimize social prejudges. “Physical disabled persons are struggling each day to integrate themselves into the normal life. We must respect their individuality and try to adapt our designs to their needs. The responsability for integration is laying with us”, points out the designer.

She designed a look out of the ecological colour denim ECO-D of VICUNHA that combines the BCI cotton with polyester yarn that was made out of recycled PET bottles.

VICUNHA is supporting the finalists not only with fabrics for the production and trophy money, but also is offering a one-month paid internship in their company.
