Perdue Farms is growing over 50% of its chickens without using antibiotics of any kind, including human or animal, a move that comes after the company stopped using human antibiotics in chicken production.
The human antibiotics are either injected into the egg in the hatchery or put into the feed for faster growth promotion. Other ways through which antibiotics are administered include using animal-only antibiotics or mixing them in water or feed to treat or prevent disease.
The company has launched a range of no-antibiotics-ever chicken products into distribution under the Perdue brand name.
The Perdue Simply Smart branded no-antibiotics-ever chicken has been introduced to the existing range of frozen fully cooked and fresh fully cooked ready-to-eat Perdue Simply Smart products.
Perdue Farms chairman Jim Perdue said: "We believe consumers are concerned about the use of all antibiotics, not just some.
"Through our no antibiotics ever chickens, we want to give them a choice that carries transparency and confidence."
Perdue Perfect Portions boneless chicken products are also being produced using chicken raised without antibiotics.
