Flight Plastics has unveiled its new plastic packaging plant at Lower Hutt in New Zealand to produce food grade PET packaging from recycled PET (RPET) flake.
The new plant is claimed to be the first in the country to offer plastic packaging made of recycled materials.
Flight Plastics director Derek Lander said nearly 87% people of New Zealand are in favor of adopting packaging that contains recyclable materials.
"That's been our experience in the UK too where the majority of what we produce at our plant in Hampshire, England now uses recycled PET flakes," Lander added.
The company aims to respond to changing customer demands by manufacturing RPET plastic products at the accurate size and volume needed.
Flight Plastics further plans to expand the plant to produce the RPET flakes from PET drinks containers and food packaging that will be collected at kerbside in New Zealand.
