Full Release of Apelo Mis Pedicle Screw System Is Announced by Atlas Spine

US-based Atlas Spine has launched its Apelo minimally invasive (MIS) pedicle screw system, designed to treat spinal disorders such as degenerative disc disease and deformity.

As a predecessor of Apelo, the new minimally invasive system utilizes all of the advantages of Apelo and the modular design works for both percutaneous and mini-open procedures.

Atlas Spine has designed the new pedicle screw system with several important features in order to reduce surgical time and reduce the exposure to radiation through fluoroscopy for both the surgeon and the patients.

The Apelo system has several proprietary features, including a guidewire management system for control of the pedicle screw and wound retraction capabilities.

In addition, the system provides the feasibility to select proprietary implant options to address more complicated pathologies such as spondylolisthesis and hyperlordosis.

The rod to screw interface accommodates the saggital misalignment in conditions where reduction of a spinal segment is not an option or too difficult, or when facing a hyperlordotic L5-S1 segment.

Atlas Spine co-founder and chief technology officer Matt Baynham noted the whole idea behind minimally invasive spine surgery is to simplify steps to maximize efficiency and improve outcomes.

"Thanks to the expertise and guidance from our surgeon development team, the Apelo MIS System has proven throughout its alpha launch to be much more than a 'me-too' system, but instead has provided specific advancements to the current norm in minimally invasive spine surgery," Baynham added.
