LED firms that are listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) have reported total March revenues of NT$9.39 billion (US$313 million), up by 35.1% on month. These LED firms are expected to see strong performances in the second quarter due to rising LED backlighting demand from Korea- and Japan-based TV brands, as well as the commercial lighting market entering the boom season. Shipments in the second quarter are expected to increase rapidly.
According to LEDinside, a market research firm, the total March revenues reported from TSE-listed LED chipmakers were NT$3.77 billion, representing an on-month increase of 38% and an on-year growth of 15.4%. Total March revenues from Taiwan-based LED packaging houses were NT$5.62 billion, showing a sequential growth of 33.2% and an on-year increase of 22.4%, said the research firm.
Market observers disclosed that the second quarter is a traditional boom season for the LED market and prospects have been optimistic. The observers added that second-quarter revenues of Taiwan-based LED firms may show a sequential growth above 10%. In particular, leading chipmaker Epistar is expected to see second-quarter revenues grow 28% on-quarter with gross margin reaching 16%. Leading LED packaging house Everlight is expected to see second-quarter revenues grow 10% on quarter and 2013 total revenues to grow 7% on year, said the observers.
