QuadTech, a Qucontrols manufacturer and flexo packaging press manufacturer in Czech Republic, Soma Engineering have signed an agreement to include in-line, automated, continuous inspection systems on Soma central impression (CI) flexo lines.
The solution consists of inspection system of QuadTech with SpectralCam, PDF Verification software as well as a waste management system, which communicates with the Soma slitter-rewinder to remove defects from the printed web.
Using a 31-channel spectral sensor, the inspection system provides 100% defect inspection and true spectral color measurement.
After measuring multiple color targets it analyzes the data to ensure that there is no deviation from the target aim points.
As a fixed point of reference against which printed work is compared, the PDF technology uses the customer-approved digital artwork file and helps the operator to detect cylinder set-up or plating errors.
It also does away with the problem of emerging defects such as subtle color changes that can occur during printing.
Reject zones within the roll will be highlighted by the waste management system enabling the slitter-rewinder to pause operation, for easy material removal and splicing, without the requirement for manual detection or waste-tagging.
Soma Engineering marketing manager Petr Blasko said the company identified that brand owners need spot colors to be printed within required specifications.
"As the quality requirements of print rise each year, it becomes necessary to invest in web inspection or color measurement equipment as well as web viewing," Blasko said.
