Saudi Arabia-based chemicals firm Sabic has added PP- Ultra Melt Strength (UMS) resin to its global foam portfolio.
The new generation of melt strength polypropylenes, Sabic PP-UMS has a melt strength of more than 65cN with improved foam-ability.
Sabic said that the new resin can be used by all industry segments as a building block to develop new foaming solutions,
The SABIC PP-UMS material can be used in the automotive, packaging and building & construction markets, to improve light-weighting.
Sabic global Foam & Lightweight Leader Frank de Vries said: “Looking to the future of light weighting, we see that foaming is a key technology to push the boundaries and create even more down gauging opportunities in the industry.
“For this reason, our global teams are busy developing the next generation of foam-able resin solutions for the market.”
Sabic said that its new polypropylene resin has been evaluated and optimized for foaming at its Foam Innovation Center (FIC) in the Netherlands.
Vries added: “We all face many global challenges due to an ever-growing population and increasingly limited resources.
“Foaming is key to help solving these challenges, by pushing industries to invest in solutions that are both sustainable and cost-efficient, with enhanced material properties.”
Recently, Sabic has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Innovo Packaging to develop innovative foamed packaging solutions for China’s e-commerce sector.
The new solutions, which will be lightweight, more rigid and durable, are expected to help parcel delivery companies reduce their logistics costs and boost their competitiveness, Sabic said.
