Epistar Expects January-February Capacity Utilization Rate to Be Around 70%

LED chipmaker Epistar expects January-February capacity utilization rate to be around 70% and is likely to reach full capacity in April due to strong LED backlight and lighting orders.

The firm added that orders for March are up compared to the first two months of 2013. Epistar stated that demand in January-February has been focused on high-end products. The firm pointed out that the average price fall of LED chips is currently around 3-5% and the number of chips per product is likely to decrease as the market favors increasing the brightness of each chip.

Another Taiwan-based LED chipmaker, Formosa Epitaxy, noted that urgent orders for LED backlight products began to emerge around the end of January and the beginning of February. The firm predicts order visibility clear to March.

Formosa Epitaxy added that capacity utilization rate in February is 80%, higher than the 70% in January. The firm expects capacity utilization rate to increase in March due to rising orders.

Epileds, a Taiwan-based LED firm that focuses on high-power lighting, revealed that orders have been healthy and capacity utilization rate has been increasing to 80%. The firm predicts full capacity in March.

The rebound of backlighting orders began in the end of January and market observers believe February revenues at LED firms are likely to be flat while March revenues will likely show growth.
