Australian Agricultural Plans to Set up $88.23m Meat Processing Facility

Beef producer Australian Agricultural Company(AACo)plans to set up an A$85m($88.23m)meat processing facility near Darwin,Northern Territory,Australia.

The facility will be built as a hot boning facility and will have a flexibility to incorporate chillers for prime cattle processing.

It will have a design capacity of up to 225,000 head per annum,and will process up to around 200,000 cattle per year once production levels are achieved.

About 260 direct and a further 530 indirect jobs are expected to be created following the construction of the facility.In addition,the facility will inject$126 million a year into the local economy.

The facility will be built at Livingstone Valley,50km south of Darwin.The Livingstone site is approximately 600ha in size,of which approximately 14ha will be occupied by the meat processing facility.

The remaining site will feature irrigation zones,natural wetlands,ponds and other areas providing facility and amenity to the site.The company will purchase additional land to ensure a sufficient buffer zone between the abattoir and adjoining areas.
