A new all-wheel-drive Hyundai ix35 powered by the Korean brand's 2.0-litre R-series has been added to the SUV's Special Edition line-up.
The new 135kW/392Nm AWD Hyundai ix35 SE diesel model is priced from $34,990 and joins the existing $29,990?front-wheel-drive ix35 SE, which features a 122kW/197Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine.
While both Czech-sourced models come tied to a six-speed automatic transmission, the 2.0-litre R-series CRDi turbo-diesel delivers not only more power and torque than the petrol unit but better fuel consumption too, returning figures of 7.5 litres per 100km compared with the petrol's 8.5L/100km.
Based on the entry-level Active model, the new AWD diesel SE is equipped with a unique front bumper, fog lights, dusk-sensing headlights, power folding side mirrors, solar control glass with rear privacy tint and 17-inch alloy wheels. The interior adds a chillable glove box, heated front and rear seats and leather/leatherette upholstery across the seats, steering wheel and shift knob. A five-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker stereo with Bluetooth audio streaming and AUX/USB/iPod audio inputs are also included.
The five-star ANCAP safety rated Hyundai ix35 SE features a raft of safety technology including six airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, traction control, downhill brake control and hill start assist, along with a rear-view camera that displays its vision in the electro-chromatic rear-view mirror.
