Jaguar XF: Next-Gen Test Mule Spied

A development mule of the next-generation Jaguar XF has been spotted near the British brand’s test centre at the Nurburgring in Germany.

CarAdvice’s spy photographers captured all angles of the black prototype sedan, which disguises its new ‘iQ[Al]‘ modular aluminium architecture with the body panels of the current Jaguar XF and a camouflaged front end.

The new lightweight platform debuted beneath the Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept at September’s Frankfurt motor show.

The second-generation Jaguar XF is set to become the third model line underpinned by the flexible new platform, following the brand’s new mid-sized 3 Series rival, known unofficially as the XS, and the production version of the C-X17.

Like its sedan and crossover siblings, the second-generation XF will be powered by Jaguar’s new range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that will be produced at JLR’s new £500 million ($840 million) powertrain plant currently under construction in Wolverhampton. Supercharged V6 and V8 petrol engines will also feature under the bonnets of higher-powered models.

The second-gen Jaguar XF is tipped to launch in 2016, eight years after the introduction of the original in 2008.
