Taiwan panel makers are continuing to supply China-based handset vendors with on-cell touch technology and are optimistic about shipments of the technology in the second half of 2013, according to industry sources.
Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment and Coolpad are reportedly some of the vendors receiving the technology, with international vendors expected to follow in the future, the sources said.
The panel makers have taken a conservative strategy toward on-cell touch panel production throughout 2012 into early 2013 as demand has been limited in the market. However, makers such as Innolux, AU Optronics (AUO), HannStar Display and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) are all reportedly preparing to ramp up production of the technology in the second half and are optimistic about the business opportunities it will bring, the sources added.
The sources also said that handset vendors in China expect to continue putting in orders for the technology as their product life cycles are decreasing to around 3-4 months.
The makers also expect to introduce the technology to new customers throughout the second half and are continuing to improve its yields, the sources noted.
