In the wake of the ongoing anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation taken by the US government, China-based solar firms reportedly are looking to work with Taiwan-based firms to weather possible impacts from the probe. According to industry sources, the China firms may procure solar cells from Taiwan-based suppliers and manufacture modules in the US to avoid the high tariffs. Taiwan-based firms may enjoy the business expansion in the US solar market in 2012. The sources indicated that talks of such collaboration between China-based and Taiwan-based solar firms have been ongoing, but no decision will be made until the US announces the results of its preliminary investigation. Industry sources pointed out that it is highly likely the preliminary results of the probe will go against China makers and if that is the case, Taiwan-based solar firms may receive more OEM orders from China-based peers. However, the sources added that manufacturing solar modules in the US means the cost of the solar PV systems will increase. Taiwan-based solar firms will not be the only players to benefit from such investigations. Firms in South Korea, Europe and US will also benefit. The US solar market offers a lot of potential, and China-based firms will not give it up, said the sources. Source: www.digitimes.com
