It’s been two and a half years. At Expofil, leader exhibition in the yarns and fibres sector, in February of 2011 Saluzzo Yarns (at that time Filature di Miroglio) announced to the world that from that moment on it would move to the revolutionary Newlife sustainable platform for all its continuous polyester yarns.
Thus was born a complete range of yarns certified 100% from recycled post-consumption PET bottles, collected in Italy and transformed through a mechanical process in the Newlife polymer, the soul of a high performance yarn both in the aesthetic, functional and sustainable point of view.
Suffice to say that the production of one kilogram of Newlife allows a reduction of energy consumption by 60%, a reduction of CO2 emissions by 32% and water savings of 94% compared to virgin polyester as stated by the study of Life Cycle Assessment conducted by ICEA (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification). Today this unique system continues to reach extraordinary goals.
Newlife is seen on the most prestigious red carpets of the world, worn by divas and celebrities, thanks to the collaboration with C.L.A.S.S. (Creativity, Lifestyle and Sustainable Synergy), the international platform founded by Giusy Bettoni to promote eco-sustainable products, itself partner of the Green Carpet Challenge project of Livia Firth.
But that is not all: Newlife today has over fifty associate companies that use the yarns to obtain textiles for many applications; fashion, outdoor clothing, sportswear and technical outfitting, underwear, workwear, medical and protective clothing, not to mention home furnishing, interior and outdoor design.
Newlife has recently announced its introduction in the Spring-Summer 2014 collection of Weekend Max Mara. Born from the creative forge of C.LA.S.S. which has become a reference point for brands, designers, retailers and textile operators that source for innovative and sustainable textiles, this project is blending together the technological know-how of Saluzzo Yarns (partner of C.LA.S.S.) and the contemporary aesthetics of Max Mara Group, always in search of innovative and best performing materials.
The garments of Weekend Max Mara made in Newlife will be sold in 1500 stores of about 50 countries worldwide. The Newlife project is in store starting from January 2014 and has been previewed in selected points of sale from December 2013.
