Virginia’s public transportation system Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) has selected Trapeze to provide a new intelligent transportation system.
Under the contract, Trapeze will provide a solution which comprises computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) technology incorporated with their current scheduling solutions from Trapeze.
PRTC executive director Alfred Harf said the company will implement this new CAD/AVL system, which will provide up-to-the-minute vehicle location information and the wherewithal to keep its riders better informed about waiting and travel times.
"The availability of real time information has been shown to lessen commuter stress and improve customer satisfaction, making public transportation a more appealing commuting choice for those that have options," Harf said.
The new system, which provides transit riders with critical traveler information, is expected to assist PRTC to better manage their fixed-route and flex-route operations.
Trapeze's solution will also facilitate PRTC to offer real-time arrival and departure information at various sites with next stop announcements on the bus.
