What with hipsters with their Instagram and the ubiquity of amateur photographers carting around DSR cameras and taking moody landscapes of a weekend, c.
Which means, whether we realise it or not, we are acutely aware of various photography trends that go on in magazines and online - and that's a perhaps unlikely reason why more homeowners are installing LED lighting in their homes.
As Polly Dickens notes, a lighting trend inspired by photography is becoming more popular among homeowners. And the expert should know - as the creative director at Habitat, Polly not only has a hand in the shop displays that light up windows and showrooms, but sees people's buying trends first hand.
"A light that is very popular at the moment is called 'photographic' and is based on the kind of lighting that is used in photographic studios," says Polly. "[It's] really nice - although it sounds kind of hard-edged it does fit in with a lot of different interiors, so that would be an interesting product to look at."
Photographic lighting is especially useful in offices and kitchens, where clear, bright lighting is important for tasks as diverse as chopping and filing tax returns. And LED lights are the perfect bulb to get the effect with - typically seen as giving out a cold, hard light, LED bulbs have made leaps and bounds in the last 18 months alone, and now create warm, atmospheric lighting around the home. But still certain wattages can give that crisp, clear effect that's so popular right now.
"LED is important," says Polly. "There's been a huge change in legislation with light bulbs and the kind that can be used in lighting, and that is going to change lighting design going forwards, completely."
If you're looking for some photography-inspired lighting, LED bathroom lights are perfect for the littlest room in the house, while ceiling lights such as spotlights adapt perfectly to LED bulbs.
