PepsiCo Has Opened a New Food Manufacturing Facility in China

PepsiCo has opened a new food manufacturing facility in Wuhan,China,as a part of a plan to drive the growth of its business in the country and further expand into central and western China.

The Wuhan plant is the company's first food facility to meet the criteria established by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED),the world's leading green building standard.The company has three LEED-certified bottling plants in the country.

The plant,which features state-of-the-art technologies and processes,is expected to use 30%less water and 20%less energy compared to the 2006 baseline for PepsiCo China Foods manufacturing plants,which will reduce operating costs in the long term.

It includes 25,000m2 of production space,and is equipped with an advanced potato chip production line,with a capacity to produce approximately 15,000 tons of Lay's potato chips annually.Lay's is a leading chip brand in China.

PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said that PepsiCo has a strong and growing food and beverage business in China,and the company is making investments to drive sustainable long-term growth.

"The Wuhan plant is a crucial piece of our growth strategy,as it opens new opportunities for PepsiCo in central and western China and will allow more Chinese consumers to enjoy Lay's and other great PepsiCo brands,"Nooyi added.

The new plant marks PepsiCo's sixth food manufacturing site in the Greater China Region.The company has been seeking to expand in China-recently,PepsiCo and China-based food and beverage company Tingyi Holding entered into partnership to form a strategic alliance in China.
