Belarus has initiated a plan to increase the production capacity of worsted and woolen fabrics within a short period.
Belarusian First Vice Premier Mr. Vladimir Semashko has put forward a proposal to set up worsted fabric production facility at the premises of OAO Sukno and OAO Slonim Worsted and Spinning Factory.
As per the suggestion, some of the machinery and equipment from the Minsk-based OAO Kamvol would be shifted to OAO Sukno and the Slonim-based factory, as it would be cheaper than a full-scale modernization and could be achieved in a shorter time and at a lower cost.
The Minsk city administration could then use the premises of OAO Kamvol for organizing exhibitions, BelTA reported quoting Mr. Semashko.
By doing so, capacity to produce 4 million metres of worsted fabric and 2.7 million metres of woolen fabric would be created in Belarus.
In addition, the production capacity of OAO Sukno would be upgraded to make yarn for worsted, knitwear and other products.
Moreover, the project may also attract some foreign investment, according to Mr. Semashko.
