The current summer-holiday period in the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony mainly set the tone in mid-August for activity on southern German softwood-lumber markets, while the holidays have finished or are nearly at an end in the western federal states. Overall, sawing activity is at a relatively low level for the time of year. Numerous businesses have scheduled two- to three-week shutdowns, whereby from today‘s perspective calendar weeks 32 and 33 in particular show the most extensive overlaps. However, many businesses for which holidays end in the next two weeks will initially resume sawing only at a reduced level. In numerous cases companies are still lacking orders in order to be able justify two shifts, though sawing is being regulated by insufficient roundwood stocks in some companies.
