US personal lines insurer Allstate has introduced its usage-based insurance device, Drivewise, in additional six states across the US, to help identify and improve driving habits of policyholders by delivering constant feedback.
Available to customers in Missouri, Indiana, Minnesota, Maryland, Utah, and Washington, Drivewise will measures mileage, braking, speed, and driving time, enabling the company to calculate a discount for each customer using its telematics technology.
Allstate Senior Product vice president Ed Biemer said, ''We know Drivewise can create a safer, more self-aware driver and, it remains our goal to offer usage-based insurance to as many of our customers as possible so we can encourage safer driving and pass along a significant discount for it."
The company has also launched a usage-based insurance application to provide smart phone users with near real-time updates with each trip and easier access on the go.
Originally introduced in December 2010, Drivewise provides customers with an automatic 10% enrollment discount upon signing and after the first six months of use it is replaced with performance discount based on the demonstrated driving habits.
The system can be easily plugged into on-board diagnostic port of the car's dashboard/steering column by the customers, who can then go online or use new application to learn about their driving habits and how to become safe drivers.
