A massive food recall is taking place in 36 states and Washington DC, over concerns of possible listeria contamination.
This was implemented by Missa Bay, a subsidiary of New Jersey based Ready Pac Foods, after listeria contamination was confirmed on Missa's apple processing equipment, according to the Associated Press.
The packaged apple slices are retailed at both the McDonalds and Burger King as a healthy supplement to other food items.
These apple slices were also distributed to Wawa convenience stores and Wegman's supermarket chain, along with Ready Pac vegetables and ready-to-eat salads.
However, no illnesses have been reported till date.
