KPU Has Received a $733,006 Investment From The Ministry of Advanced Education

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has received a $733,006 investment from the ministry of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology, to purchase a LabVolt electromechanical trainer (pictured right), along other equipment, for its Cloverdale trades campus. With this funding, KPU said it is now able to update its facilities with more current equipment to address student needs, and meet the demands for skilled professionals in today’s workforce. Specifically for those in the electrical stream, the new LabVolt electromechanical trainer will teach students to connect different types of rotating machines into electrical circuits and examine what happens to these rotating machines as different levels and types of loads are connected to the electrical circuit, said KPU.

“This money will be directed to purchase much needed equipment to allow KPU students to practice their skills on their journey to become trades professionals,” said Henry Reiser, dean of the faculty of trades and technology. “The new equipment has been identified by our dedicated faculty who will be able to maximize the benefit in their true-to-life practical exercises.”

“Under the B.C. Jobs Plan and our Skills and Training Plan, we’re taking action to provide students with opportunities for hands-on experience, which will help them to succeed after graduation,” said John Yap, minister of advanced education, innovation and technology. “Our investment will help to develop skilled graduates who are job-ready when they enter the workforce.”

All purchased equipment are scheduled to be on campus, ready for student use by March 31, 2013.
