Largest Investment Concluded by Pilot Chemical

Pilot Chemical Company announced the completion of its largest infrastructure investment in the company’s history at its Middletown, Ohio facility. The capital improvements and enhancements to the facility support the company’s strategy of serving customers efficiently with the highest quality products. Safety, handling and workflow processes for employees have also been upgraded.

“Pilot is committed to making investments that meet our goals of improving safety, effectively servicing our customers with high quality, innovative products and enhancing our reliability,” said Pam Butcher, President and Chief Operating Officer of Pilot Chemical Company. “The expansion and equipment additions to the Middletown operation will facilitate continued innovation, along with the addition of capabilities and technologies that support our customer’s growth, all high priorities for Pilot.”

New storage tanks were installed, creating additional flexibility for trial runs. The increased storage capacity will hold a range of raw materials and finished goods, providing the ability to inventory products and better service distributors and customers.

“Pilot is focused on creating new and innovative solutions to meet our customers’ needs,” added Glynn Goertzen, VP – Commercial at Pilot. “The enhancements and additions made to the Middletown facility will allow us to be more flexible in servicing our existing customers while giving us the capability to respond quickly to new opportunities.”

Transportation infrastructure additions to the facility allow Pilot to better serve customers and include new rail and truck loading racks, a second rail spur and new loading and unloading docks for box trailers.  The site access road has been lengthened with the addition of truck trailer parking.

Ground was broken for the expansion in June 2012. By December 2012, four capital projects were completed and by the third quarter of 2013, all of the new enhancements will be in service.

Currently, the Middletown facility employs more than 45 people. Pilot expects to expand its workforce in the future. The Middletown operation was established in 1985 with an expansion in 2008.
