Many people may not know that nature contains a naturally glowing light source, bioluminescence. This naturally occurring glowing algae generally shows up in the ocean during certain times and places when the ocean’s algae count is particularly high. At this time certain parts of the ocean will simply glow with light. It happens often, and even happens in Laguna Beach, Calif. Using this same idea, the creators at Hackaday have taken to creating a bioluminescent algae nightlight.

His nightlight design not only glows entirely from bioluminescent algae but it also responds to the most basic movement, such as walking.
