Apparel exports from Turkey totaled $6.2 billion during the first four months of 2014, registering a rise of 11 percent, compared to the same period last year, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB).
According to the ITKIB data, Turkey exported clothing worth $6.2 billion during January to April 2014, whereas garment exports from the country amounted to $5.6 billion during the same period last year.
Sub-sector wise, the highest exports were made from the knitted apparel and accessories category with exports totaling $3.2 billion during the first four months of 2014, followed by woven clothing and accessories with exports amounting to $2.1 billion and other ready-made articles with exports worth $767.2 million.
As per the ITKIB data, Germany was the main destination for garment exports from Turkey, with exports amounting to $1.3 billion during the January to April period, followed by the UK with $751.6 million, Spain with $520.7 million, France with $397.4 million and the Netherlands with $340.5 million.
The European Union (EU) remained the main destination for apparel exports from Turkey, accounting for 75.2 percent for apparel exports from the country during the first four months of this year.
In 2013, Turkey exported apparel worth US$ 17.3 billion, indicating an increase of 8.3 percent compared to 2012, as per the data from the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB).
