Japanese car maker Mitsubishi Motors is planning to unveil the pre-production Outlander plug-in hybrid EV(PHEV)at 2012 Paris Motor Show in France,prior to its launch in 2013.
The new PHEV will be powered a combination of front electric motor,rear electric motor as well as a front-mounted petrol engine and can be used in three driving modes.
The driving modes include,pure mode,which allows the front and rear electric motors to power all four wheels using only electricity,the series mode allows the petrol engine to work as generator to keep the battery charged.
Mitsubishi said that the third'parallel mode'uses the internal combustion engine as the main driving source,while electric motors offer additional support.
According to the carmaker,the new PHEV offers a driving range of 500 miles and delivers CO2 emissions below 50 g/km.
The Outlander PHEV is expected to be launched in Europe during 2013.
