Canada-based RRFB Nova Scotia has introduced a new compaction trailer pilot project to ENVIRO-DEPOT owners/operators around its province.
RRFB Nova Scotia CEO Jeff MacCallum said the compaction trailer is the first of its kind in North America, which allows them to recycle compact beverage containers at the depot site and then transport them direct to the end-market processor.
"We need innovative technology to improve efficiencies in the system in order to maintain a viable system. Agencies across Canada are experiencing the same challenges, and they too are looking for solutions," MacCallum said.
Unlike in the current system, a regular trailer fits approximately 78 bulk containers of recyclables, while with the pilot project, the compaction trailer can fit about 500 bulk containers of recyclables.
The compaction trailer pilot project, which started with Enviro-Depots in Halifax Regional Municipality in July 2012, is expected to be completed within two years.
Resource Recovery Fund Board (RRFB Nova Scotia) is a not-for-profit corporation working in partnership with Nova Scotians to improve the province's environment, economy and quality of life by reducing, reusing, recycling and recovering resources.
