When you think of the Edsion light bulb images of the incandescent light bulb’s round shape may come to mind. When you think of the LED light bulb what do you think of? Probably nothing specific comes to mind since the bulb design is new and there is no defined shape, visions of curly cues and unusual shapes may pop up.

In February of 2012 a group of designers sat down on a quest to define the LED light bulb with an icon. The result? Multiple icons that began to interpret many emerging technologies including geothermal, hybrid, LED, biofuel and more.
The whole thing seemed to have escalated (in a good way) into much more than what was originally planned. In fact, the designers achievements resulted in an Iconathon, all of which is on display at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, NC.
The Cree Energy Efficiency Icon Art Installation raises awareness about the importance of saving energy. All of the icons are available for free public download.
