Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor (MMC) is planning to increase the production of its CX-5 SUV to 240,000 units from the current 200,000 units per year to meet demand for the SUV globally.
The carmaker is planning to expand the production of SUV from Ujina facility No.2 as well as Ujina Plant No.1 to meet the requirements.
Mazda will also refurbish the Ujina Plant No.1 based on its manufacturing system innovation called Monotsukuri Innovation, which will allow faster production of new generation SKYACTIV products.
The CX-5 incorporates Skyactiv Technology which offers both enhanced fuel economy and imptoved driving experience.
Mazda has begun sales of the new SUV in February and the company is expecting to sell 190,000 units of the SUV in 2012, from its earlier target of 160,000 units.
Since it commenced sale, the company has received 24,000 orders for CX-5 in Japan.
