BASF and Finsa have unveiled their lightweight wood panel joint development project at ZOW Germany in advance of its market launch this year. Superpan Star – combining Finsa’s Superpan (MDF faces/particleboard core) with BASF’s Kaurit Light technology, which consists of wood chips, a polymer and a bonding agent, was shown to visitors at the Bad Salzuflen show on February 6-9. The new material is claimed to weigh up to 30% less compared to conventional board. The various applications for the new and lighter panel include furniture production, worktops and interior decoration. It may also be used for trade shows and commercial construction.
