Nissan Has Released a First Teaser Image of What Will Likely Be The Next-Generation Maxima

Nissan Sport Sedan Concept Teases Next-Gen US Maxima

Nissan has released a first teaser image of what will likely be the next-generation Maxima, ahead of its world premiere at January’s Detroit auto show.

Said to preview “a future production sports sedan”, Nissan is giving few details away saying only that the concept will combine “energetic design” and “sports car principles”.

Clearly reflecting Nissan’s latest design cues seen on the all-new X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs – due locally in the second and third quarter of 2014 respectively – the concept features a chrome-highlighted ‘V’ grille, angular LED headlights, flowing guards and a sculptured bonnet.

The Sport Sedan concept also looks near-identical to the concept (pictured above) shown on screen during a presentation in August last year at an event celebrating the Japanese manufacturer’s 80th anniversary.

Featuring a similar grille, headlight, bonnet, wing mirror, blacked-out A-pillar and wheel design to the previous concept, speculation is rife that the Detroit-bound show car will evolve into the 2015 model year US-market Nissan Maxima.

Any such model is unlikely to make it into local showrooms, however, with the all-new Nissan Altima replacing our own market’s previous Maxima – despite the Australian division’s insistence that the 35mm-longer Altima is a ‘medium’ rather than ‘large’ car.

All will be revealed when the Nissan Sport Sedan concept debuts in Detroit on January 13, where it will be joined by the Nissan IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo concepts first seen at November’s Tokyo motor show.
