Bright colored rugs are on display in SAMS International's Showplace 3600 showroom this week.HIGH POINT - Color, design and texture are kings of the rug world at this week's High Point Market.
Rug vendors say that as the market gets underway in earnest, they expect buyers to head toward hues, dig design and flip over feel.
For many, the move toward color isn't surprising.
"After a third year of furniture and textile trends focused on neutrals - distressed, whitewashed woods and tones of gray, taupe and beige - we find that buyers are now looking for color. Buyers and designers alike see that integrating color can instantly modernize a space," said David Abecassis, a principal of SAMS International, which shows at Showplace 3600. "Gray and ivory have been replaced by pops of fuchsia, citron and navy blue, a shift that has been very exciting to us."
Manufacturers are putting their best feet forward this week in hopes of ending a solid 2013 on a positive note.
"We've got a ton of exciting new product introductions this market and we think the reaction will be overwhelmingly positive," said Cyrus Loloi, a principal of Loloi Rugs, showing in the International Home Furnishings Center, D-320.
"Specifically, we're introducing pillows for the first time ever. We're also introducing the Kensington Collection designed by our new licensed partner, Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, as well as the introducing of the Palm Springs Collection, an indoor/outdoor collection designed by Dann Foley," Loloi said. "On top of all of this, we'll have seven new indoor/outdoor collections - some of which are already in stock."
