The month of October seems to have brought cheer to Surat textile industry, as the sales have increased owing to the Dusshera and Diwali festivals, as well as the upcoming marriage season.
Mr. Devkishan Manghani, general secretary of Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA), told fibre2fashion, “As part of the ongoing festival season and the upcoming marriage season, there is nearly 60 percent increase in sales of Surat textile industry.”
“However, this recent increase in sales may not sustain for a long time. Sales would decrease once the festival season ends,” he adds.
According to Mr. Manghani, consumers from all over India, especially from the northern part of the country, are pre-booking textiles for the upcoming marriage season, and this is the reason for the recent rise in sales.
In the month of September, textile traders in Surat experienced a severe decline in the orders of textile goods including sarees, dress materials and synthetic fabrics, from different parts of India, especially south India. So, the rise in sales during October has brought a respite to them.
Surat textile sector supplies synthetic fabrics to the garment manufacturing industries, as well as finished goods like sarees, dress materials, etc. to retailers, across the country.
