The worldwide market for stabilisers – which protect plastics from degradation when exposed to heat and light – will achieve revenues of $4.8bn (€3.2bn) by 2018, according to market research company Ceresana. According to the new study, the construction industry is the heaviest user of stabilisers, with more than 85% going to profiles, pipes and cable jackets in 2010. The market for light stabilisers, particularly HALS (hindered amine light stabilisers), are also heavily in demand, says Ceresana. In terms of region, Asia-Pacific is the biggest market, accounting for half of all demand, followed by western Europe and the US. South America, eastern Europe, and the Middle East register above-average growth rates of 3.5% to 4.7%. Source: European Plastics News
