Led by a marginal decline in production in Gujarat, a cotton trade body has estimated India’s 2014-15 season cotton output at 405.50 bales (170 kg each) as against 407.25 bales in 2013-14 season.
A news agency reported that as per estimates of the Cotton Association of India (CAI), the overall cotton crop in Gujarat will be 126 million bales in 2014-15, vis-a-vis 129.25 in the previous season.
Earlier in September, CAI had estimated the Indian cotton crop output for the 2014-15 season at 403.75 lakh bales.
As per the CAI cotton forecast, total cotton supply will be at 477.40 lakh bales, while domestic usage will be 306.00 lakh bales, which makes available surplus of 171.40 lakh bales. (AR)
