Subaru has released its Japan-only Subaru WRX STI tS Type RA, and if you’re questioning the car’s name, you won’t question its running gear.
The Subaru WRX STI tS Type RA, which is limited to a maximum run of 300 units, is based upon the four-door WRXSTI spec C. It focuses on tuning that car’s suspension set-up to enhance its “strength and nimbleness”.
The gearbox will feature a quick steering gear ratio of 11:1, and Brembo supplies the six-pot brake calipers.
Engineers targeted the car’s “running, turning and stopping” to ensure the Type RA is as balanced as possible.
If all this doesn’t sound like its quite enough for you, then Subaru Japan also offers its customers a Nurburgring-inspired ‘NBR Challenge Pack’, which adds a carbonfibre rear spoiler and special 18-inch forged aluminium wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres to the mix. It also calls the car the ‘Subaru WRX STI ts Type RA NBR Challenge Pack’, meaning you can probably lap the race track faster than you can say the model name.
Subaru will offer the Type RA in three colours – Tangerine Orange Pearl, Satin White Pearl or Blue Mica – with contrasting black door mirror covers and red stitching and STI badges for the interior.
Although Australia won’t be receiving the model, we can expect the recently announced 20th anniversary special edition of the WRX. That car will be available from September in a limited run of 300 cars, and is a swansong for the third-generation WRX.
Expect the WRX’s traditional Blue Mica and gold wheel combination, STI front and rear spoilers, Recaro sports seats with blue Alcantara inserts and black and blue cabin stitching.
