According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in January this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 59,921 mt, down sharply compared to the 149,563 metric tons recorded in the previous month and the 175,148 mt recorded in the same month of 2012, and constituting the lowest volume since May 2011. In 2012, Turkey's pig iron imports had amounted to 1.4 million metric tons, increasing by 21 percent compared to 2011 and hitting the highest historical annual level.
In January this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $397/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $468/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in January was $23.8 million, down 71 percent compared to January 2012.
Turkey's pig iron imports from Ukraine in January this year amounted to 26,900 metric tons, down 77 compared to the previous month, while imports from Russia, Turkey's second largest pig iron source, amounted to 26,152 mt in January, up 4.8 percent month on month.
