The selection is a part of SWC's plan to move from glass bottles to a 1,000ml combiblocSlimline carton pack for four of its own home-grown semi-dry wines.

As part of this effort, South Wine Company has installed SIG Combibloc' CFA 310 filling machine to fill the combiblocSlimline carton packs featuring fully printable display surfaces.

SWC deputy managing director Vyacheslav Merkulov said: "We decided to make our wines, which come exclusively from our own grape-growing areas on the Taman Peninsula, available in carton packs from SIG Combibloc.

"We are convinced that this packaging preserves the high quality of our wines and perfectly suits the convenience requirements of modern consumers."

SWC is transitioning to aseptic carton packs for wines due to their lightweight and unbreakable feature. It is planning to offer the packs in the Russian market.

SIG Combibloc global product management market head Norman Gierow said: "We are observing that not only low-cost table wines but also good standard products and quality wines are increasingly being offered in aseptic carton packs.

"The four fully printable display surfaces on a carton pack can help change the image of wine in carton packs - they offer plenty of options for creative and attractive designs, which will draw attention to them on the wine shelf."

SWC said that the logistical and handling advantages of carton packs is expected to help wine producers and fillers develop new distribution and marketing channels.

Together with the SIG Combibloc closures, the combibloc and combifit carton packs are fully recyclable and are suitable for all local and national recycling and waste management options.
