The wholly-owned operating subsidiary of Patient Safety Technologies, SurgiCount Medical, has announced that Ketchikan Medical Center (KMC) will become the first hospital in the PeaceHealth system to deploy the SurgiCount Safety-Sponge System.
The Safety-Sponge System supplies a clinically proven solution to prevent the common surgical errors like retained surgical sponges.
Ketchikan Medical Center CEO Patrick Branco said that by using Safety-Sponge System, the company aims to eliminate the chance of occurrence in the patients.
OR Nurse Manager Kimm Schwartz said that this technology improves hospital's already proven counting system by adding a real-time quality measure.
Patient Safety Technologies president and CEO Brian Stewart said that the PeaceHealth hospital system and Ketchikan Medical Center are taking the initiative to eliminate unnecessary costs by implementing a simple, safe and clinically-proven solution to prevent retained surgical sponges.
