Illuminated Half Orb Is Lit From Within by LED Lamps

This dramatic, illuminated half orb is composed of more than 7,000 recycled plastic bottles and is lit from within by LED lamps.

The sculpture, in Hong Kong's Victoria Park, forms the centrepiece of the mid-autumn festival in the city, rising 10m above the water on which it sits, and stretching 20m across.

Moon Beams

Designers in Hong Kong have created a lighting installation that stands three storeys high in Hong Kong's Victoria Park

Created by four local designers, 'Rising Moon' seems to wax and wane on the water, thanks to the lighting effects, its reflection completing the circle and echoing the expected biggest full moon over the city for nine years. People can enter the interactive installation and gaze up through the illuminated roof to the actual moon beyond.

"We have calculated the exact location of the moon so visitors at the exhibition will have a perfect view of the real moon inside the 'Moon'," said Stanley Siu, one of the designers.

Commenting on the eco message behind the sculpture, he added: "Seven thousand plastic bottles may sound like a lot, but such an amount is actually consumed in just 15 minutes every day in Hong Kong."
