South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors is recalling nearly 221,630 Santa Fe SUVs and Sonata cars in the US over the faulty airbag issue.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Santa Fe SUVs were manufactured between 19 April 2006 and 07 July 2008 and Sonata passenger vehicles were manufactured from 24 January 2012 to 21 June 2012 which will be recalled.
The affected Santa Fe models will have faulty occupant classification system (OCS), which may not detect small-bodied adults, while the affected Sonata models would see the inflation of airbags without deployment command which could increase the risk of injury to occupants.
The carmaker has not yet decided the schedule for recalling Santa Fe while Sonata vehicles will be recalled during August 2012.
