Turkey's Steel Pipe Exports Maintained Its Uptrend on a Limited Scale in H1

According to the statistics provided by the Turkish Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (CEBID), in the first half of this year Turkey's steel pipe exports maintained its uptrend on a limited scale against the backdrop of the sluggish global economy. Turkey's steel pipe exports in the January-June period amounted to 920,000 mt, increasing three percent compared to the first half of 2012, while the value of these exports indicated a year-on-year decrease of 2.4 percent due to the global low commodity prices, declining to $816 million.

In the January-June period of the current year, the largest export markets for Turkish steel pipes were Iraq, the US and Algeria, while the exports to Iraq constituted 22 percent of the country’s total steel pipe exports. Even though steel pipe exports to the US fell 19 percent year on year, the US remained one of Turkey’s most important export markets for steel pipe. Meanwhile, exports to EU countries fell significantly in the first six months compared to the same period of 2012.

In June this year, Turkey's total steel pipe exports amounted to 183,000 metric tons, increasing by 6.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and up 36.6 percent compared to May. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $160 million, almost stable compared to May 2012 but rising 32.2 percent month on month.
