Taiwan Handset Shipments to Remain Flat in 2H15

Combined handset shipments by Taiwan-based handset vendors and ODMs in the third and fourth quarters are likely to be lower than the amount they shipped in the second quarter, reflecting slackening demand, according to Digitimes Research.

Shipments by brand vendors Asustek Computer and Acer in the second half will be higher than those shipped in the first half, but shipments from HTC will remain sluggish, Digitimes Research commented.

Shipments of ZenFone 2 series phones from Asustek will grow quarter by quarter in the second half, allowing Asustek to outpace HTC as Taiwan's top smartphone vendor starting the third quarter.

Meanwhile, new orders received by handset ODMs from LG Electronics, TCL and Micromax will not be sufficient enough to cover the declines in shipments to Microsoft Mobile and Sony Mobile Communications.

Overall, handset shipments by Taiwan's brand vendors and ODMs will reach 21.35 million and 21.23 million units, respectively, in the third and fourth quarters, Digitimes Research estimated.
