Syrena Sport Is Ready to Take The Leap From Concept to Production

It may be more than 50 years late, but the Syrena Sport is finally ready to take the leap from concept to production.

Described by many as the most beautiful car ever designed in Poland, the Syrena Sport was developed by Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych (FSO) in the late 1950s but due to various economic and political conflicts never progressed beyond prototype stage.

Polish entrepreneur Rafal Czubaj is looking to change that, however, with plans to build a modern-day Syrena Sport based on the underpinnings of the Nissan 370Z.

The Syrena Sport’s sleek coupe body – seen here in these computer-generated images first published by Motor Authority – was designed by Pavlo Burkatskyy, who is part of the team working on that other Polish creation, the Arrinera supercar.

The team behind the new 1300kg Syrena Sport say it will be available with two tunes of the 370Z’s 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine: a 246kW naturally aspirated version and 336kW turbocharged variant.

Initial performance estimates have the Sport launching from 0-100km/h in around 4.5 seconds and capable of reaching a top speed of 290km/h.

The team plans to build just one car initially, but is leaving the door open to extra production if there is demand for the resurrected sports car.
