SRAM Asked The Customers to Stop Selling The Brake Sets

SRAM has sent a technical bulletin to original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket distributors, telling them to stop selling a limited number of its Red 22 and S 700 hydraulic rim and hydraulic disc brake sets.

SRAM asked the customers to stop selling the brake sets. "This is a safety issue," the technical bulletin reads.

The stop sell notice applies to all Red 22 and S 700 Hydro Road Rim and Disc brake systems with serial numbers between 36T30000000 and 42T39999999. The serial number can be found on the brake caliper (rim or disc) and on the outside of the box containing the product.

The affected brakes were all shipped to customers after Sept. 5.

Customers are being asked to "quarantine" any affected brakes and stop production use or shipment of the involved products. The notice said "any product already shipped into the market showing a concern will be handled via the normal warranty process."

Michael Zellmann, SRAM's road PR and media manager, had no comment Monday morning, but said he would contact BRAIN Monday afternoon regarding the bulletin.

One of SRAM's U.S. OE customers said he understood that the problem involved a relatively small number of units from one production run.
