With 137 million Internet users in India coupled with increasing mobile Internet penetration, retail segment of the country is witnessing a rapid change in the method of shopping from the traditional brick and mortar stores to buying through Internet and mobile devices.
The eBay India Summer Mobile Commerce Survey states that apparels are among the top items bought by the mobile shoppers in the country.
According to the survey report, 43 percent of the mobile shoppers would prefer to purchase cotton apparels during this summer.
White turns out to be the most preferred color for this summer for 56 percent of the mobile shoppers, followed by blue with 50 percent, green 22 percent, black 20 percent and cream 20 percent.
Speaking to fibre2fashion, e-commerce evangelist of eBay India, Ms. Deepa Thomas said, “We believe that the next 100 million mobile users will probably have their first Internet experience through their mobile phones.”
“The shoppers will reach for their cell phones before they reach for their wallets to ensure they have checked online for the best selection and great deals,” she adds.
Mr. Mukesh Bansal, CEO and co-founder of Myntra, says, "With rapidly increasing mobile Internet penetration and growing acceptance of smart phones and large screen phablets, m-commerce will be big in the coming year in the e-commerce space, specifically, the US$ 50 billion fashion and lifestyle segment.
“The online retailers will look at developing & leveraging this medium and in the next couple of years, we expect about 10-15 percent of all online transactions to be generated via mobile smart phones," he adds.
